In the fall of 1967, 24-year-old Students for a Democratic Society activist Carol McEldowney traveled illegally to North Vietnam during her country's war against that Southeast Asian nation, accompanied by such figures as Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, and Bob Allen. While others have produced memoirs of traveling to Vietnam as part of their antiwar activities, McEldowney's daily journal represents the only piece of writing to record such experiences as they were occurring.
