While acknowledging the continuity of the technology associated with Maori weaving and plaiting brought to Aotearoa by Maori ancestors, this volume celebrates innovation and the development of weaving and plaiting as modern art forms. The text showcases contemporary art works by some of Aotearoa's Maori expert weavers. The art is organized into two distinct categories: whatu, a form of finger weaving using warps and wefts, and raranga, the interlacing of left-and right-hand strands.
