A dozen analytical categories were identified to inform both the selection of topics and the treatment of them. Among them are religious perceptions and beliefs concerning living organisms as a class and as individuals, nature and religion in inter-human conflict and violence, and the impacts of globalization. Articles focus on people, institutions, events, concepts, movements and schools of thought, literature, and other topics. They range from a short paragraph to many pages, and each includes suggested readings. Contributors are scholars of the natural and social sciences and of religion.
