Baxter, a military historian specializing in 20th century German military history, chronicles the last months of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front in 1944-45, as the remnants of Army Group North were driven to the borders of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and East Prussia. B&w historical photos, many previously unpublished, appear on nearly every page, accompanied by detailed captions. The photographs are from the collection of German collector Michael Cremin, from the archive of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense, and from private photo collections in Poland, Russia, and the Ukraine.
