Eleven British researchers and academics contribute 11 essays examining multimodality and learning in primary and secondary school, and in the home, across a range of subjects (English, information and communication technologies, math, media studies, science). They show that meanings are made, distributed, received, interpreted and remade in interpretation through many representational and communicative modes besides language. Differing modes of representing the world give it different appearances, which have differential effects for learning.
