In his third book on Native American religion, Irwin (religious studies, College of Charleston) explores the many confluences and divergences within Native communities based on the personal teaching of individual prophetic leaders. In general, he selects specific and identifiable Native leaders, and summarizes their careers when sources permit. His contribution, he hopes, in not so much to present original as to gather selected material from a vast reservoir as a resource for later scholars.
