The journals and letters of Father Craft, an eyewitness to the 1890 events at Wounded Knee, are collected in this volume that includes an analysis by the editor that reinterprets the incident as more of a two-sided battle and less of a massacre. Foley has previously written about Craft and the Lakota tribe, and he presents these journals to fellow historians and general audiences that reveal both the daily routines of this missionary and the tensions between the Catholic Church and the Indian Bureau.
