The five-volume series reviews current scholarship on how the writers of the four canonical Gospels and the extra-canonical gospels used embedded Scripture. Mostly North American biblical and religious scholars look at such issues as Justin Martyr on Matthew's fulfillment quotations, the historicizing function of Scripture in Matthew 2, messianic interpretation of Isaiah 63.4 in Matthew 8.17, and scribal methods in Matthew and Mishnah Abot.
