The two prongs of the US government's Global War on Terrorism actually work against each other, says Crosston (Clemson U., US), and people interested in solving the problem rather than simply in conducting the war need to rethink the approach. He argues that the attempt to crush any hint of terrorism whenever and wherever it appears must be abandoned in order to focus on seeding and nurturing democratic regimes in which terrorists will find no fertile ground.
