Post describes the devastation of Hurricane Audrey, which struck the coast of Louisiana in 1957, through the perspectives of six families, including her own. In chronological order and in a narrative style, she recounts the days before, during, and after the hurricane, how it killed over 500 people, and how it was the first to be tracked by radar.
