Egyedi (standardization, Delft U. of Technology, The Netherlands) and Blind (innovation economics, Berlin U. of Technology, Germany, and standardization, Erasmus U., The Netherlands) compile nine chapters by European economists, computer scientists, social scientists, and engineers who address the tension between standards and change in information technology. Most of the chapters draw from research performed by the Delft U. of Technology and a project of the European Union, "Networking Organizations--Research into Standards and Standardization," which focused on the supply and demand side of information and communication technology standards for networked organizations and their interaction. Two additional contributions were invited. Chapters focus on standards' change in the context of standard setting and use, specifically sustainable digital data, incompatibilities in IT products and services, competing standards in DVD technology, structured information exchange, the lifetime of standards, and other topics. The book is aimed at those in innovation, management of technology, and standardization studies, as well as standards-setting organizations and policymakers.
