Toward the end of Trajan's (the Roman emperor) reign, and before the Bar Kochba revolt, Diaspora Jews staged massive uprisings in Libya, Egypt, Cyprus, Judaea, and Mesopotamia. In this academic volume, Pucci Ben Zeev (Jewish history, Ben Gurion U. of the Negev) questions the accepted order in which the uprisings took place. Part I contains a full collection of ancient inscriptions, papyri, and literary sources; in their original languages, and translated into English. In part II the author re-examines and reinterprets these ancient sources, and arrives at a new chronology of events, which lead to surprising conclusions about the interrelationships between uprisings in different regions.
