Adams and Hawkins (both anthropology, Brigham Young U.) present an examination of the cross-section of traditional and modern health care beliefs in three K'iche' Maya communities in Guatemala. Chapters address cultural, institutional, and behavioral aspects of both schools of health care, going on to describe indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants and approaches to fields like midwifery and dentistry.
