First printed in 1983, this study reveals the buyer-seller dynamics involved in the allocation of work among Hollywood film composers and traces the network of connections that binds composers to their employers in the film industry. Faulkner (sociology, U. of Massachusetts Amherst) uses statistical analysis and interviews with top composers to show that the film industry is dominated by a highly visible elite who exert major influence on the control of available resources, career choices, and opportunities.
