This report reviews the scientific literature and recent experiences that have informed the contemporary study of dairy cattle nutrition, especially during the last ten years. The report describes the biological basis of predictions concerning nutrient requirements; an accompanying CD-ROM contains a computer model for making such predictions for cows which are growing, lactating, non-lactating, or young. Chapters discuss dry matter intake, energy, fat, carbohydrates, protein and amino acids, minerals, vitamins, water, requirements for the young calf, growth, the environment, and feed processing.
