In her later years, oil heiress, fashion icon and art patron Millicent Rogers promoted and collected Indian and Hispano arts and crafts. Her collection of Navajo and Zuni silver and turquoise, Hopi silver work, and Pueblo stone and shell jewelry provided the foundation for the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, which has reproduced in this volume some of its finest pieces. Tisdale, former director of the Rogers Museum and current director of the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology, includes a biography of Rogers and the historical and social background of the pieces in the collection.
