Five sections cover the history of spinal manipulation and chiropractic, including legal and sociological factors that have influenced the growth of the profession; basic principles such as the innervation of spinal structures and neurological processes; clinical skills including advanced diagnostic techniques such as imaging and electrodiagnostic tests; the most common treatment approaches, including mobilization, high velocity low amplitude, and distraction techniques (and also techniques such as acupuncture, which are gaining interest); and clinical approach to common conditions that chiropractors treat, including neck pain, headache, disorders of the peripheral nerves, and even nonmusculoskeletal disorders. Other topics include the unique characteristics in the pediatric and geriatric patient populations, clinical nutrition, and the integration of chiropractic into interdisciplinary spinal clinics.
