Prepared in response to the major importance of the pulp and paper industry in Sweden and the need for modern books on the topic, this is volume 2 in a four-volume series encompassing technicalities and practicalities from tree to finished product. Sixteen chapters discuss wood handling, the chemistry and technology of pulping and bleaching, recovery processes (including treatment of black liquor and white liquor preparation), paper recycling processes, the structure and properties of wood polymers and pulps in the process line, equipment, pulp characterization, and end-product requirements. The publishing project has been four years in the making and came about through a foundation grant awarded to the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden; contributors are from universities and companies in Sweden.
