With contributions from around the world, this two-volume set examines the impact that citizens have on the adoption of e-government on the local level, and explores the influence that e-government has had on the operation and performance of local governments. Case studies are presented from developed and developing countries. In Volume I, chapters are in sections on theoretical perspectives, and demand-side and supply-side perspectives on e-government adoption and implementation. Some specific topics examined include assessing local readiness for city e-governance in Europe, sociological factors influencing Internet voting, and evaluation of e-government projects. Volume II concentrates on emerging technologies and local e-government adoption, with chapters on the wireless city, open source technology, municipal efforts to promote residential broadband, and the role of public participation in local service delivery. Case studies on local e-government adoption come from the US, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and India.
