This study of the work of Titian grew out of a series of sessions presented at the 2004 meeting of the Renaissance Society of America and is edited by Woods-Marsden (art history, UCLA). Most of the essays concentrate on no more than two of Titian's paintings, analyzing them in minute detail from composition, execution and emotional impact to the circumstances of creating the work and the patron who commissioned it. Final articles discuss the use of human and animal figures in Titian's art and suggest that Titians landscapes should be view in relation to Renaissance pastoral poetry.
