Over recent years, computational engineers have become increasingly interested in multiphysics generally, and specifically fluid-structure interaction. Many of the problems they encounter are too complex to be solved analytically, and so must be analyzed by numerical simulations. Researchers here describe some of the algorithms and applications that have emerged. Among them are arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian in finite element methods, applying fluid-structure interaction to dynamic problems, implicit partitioned coupling in fluid-structure interaction, avoiding instabilities caused by adding mass effects, and applying multi-domain finite element computations to multi-phasic problems.
