Having first published his account in 1964 and revised it in 1985, Lockyer (U. of London) finds that the pace of historical research requires a new edition. He has integrated recent work into his chronological structure, and provided a large section suggesting further reading. His history is political, focusing on the rulers and their actions from the end of the War of the Roses through the Civil War, Commonwealth, and Restoration to the end of the Stuart dynasty.
