Early chapters of this text for a course in case management and care coordination address the historical development of nursing case management and examine the cultural issues involved in coordinating care for diverse populations. Later chapters look at the development of various case management roles during the advent of managed care and address the skills necessary to carry out these roles. Subsequent chapters consider the case manager in private practice either as a consultant or an entrepreneur and discuss current developments in case management, such as faith community nursing and telehealth case management. Final chapters explore outcomes management and ethical and legal issues. Pedagogical features include case studies, discussion questions, classroom exercises, and recommended readings.
