When MacDowell retired from the Chair of Greek at Glasgow University in the summer of 2001, a conference was held there to celebrate 30 years of service. Taking the three themes in order, 17 papers discuss such topics as the law of procedure in Attic inscriptions, revisiting the herms and the mysteries, some preliminaries to a commentary on Isokrates 16-21, and the limits of allegory and allusion in Aristophanes.
