The missiles carried the largest nuclear warhead in the US arsenal; used liquid fuel propellant; and were launched from hardened underground silos in Arkansas, Arizona, and Kansas. They were deployed in the 1950s and deactivated in the early 1980s, and have been used since then to launch satellites.
