This work summarizes theory and recent applications in healthcare informatics. The first group of chapters provides background on the current healthcare system and describes theoretical underpinnings, with chapters on information and knowledge management, project management, and strategic initiatives. Some example project implementations are included. The second half of the book focuses on actual applications that have been implemented by healthcare organizations, and discusses corresponding strategic management issues involved in these projects. These applications include e-commerce, the creation of digital data, business intelligence, and high-end analytics initiatives. The book includes numerous checklists and task tables.
