Officers and trainers with the Kansas City Police Department, Colwell and Huth charge that, following in the footsteps of business ethics, police ethics has turned into a sordid form of show business, in which law enforcement personnel are taught to look and sound respectable when the public is watching, but allowed and even encouraged to hold prejudicial attitudes and conduct private conversations that are slanderous and demeaning. They suggest a different approach, one that leads away from mutual disrespect.
