Like the other volumes in the Cultures in the American West series, this volume follows the tenets of New Western History, which foreground issues of race, ethnicity and gender in western historiography. In this text, Iber (history, Texas Tech U., Lubbock) and De León (history, Angelo State U., San Angelo, Texas) discuss the struggles and triumphs of Spanish-speaking peoples in the Western US from precolonial times to the present, looking at the many ways Hispanic people have participated in the development of the West.
