Craig (history, West Kentucky Community and Technical College, Paducah) explains that Kentucky pretty much epitomizes the concept of border state: the presidents of both the United and Confederate States were natives, the state was represented on both flags, and Kentuckians joined both armies (well, one or the other, usually) by the tens of thousands. Taking the war years two by two, he discusses such events as the great Graves County gun grab, the Lyon County church still holed by a Yankee bullet, the (General Felix K.)
