The transcultural model adopted here has grown out of and to some degree bound together a number of approaches such as creolization, hybridity, syncretism, and perhaps even postcolonialism. Scholars of English literature from cultures where English is and is not dominant explore such topics as shifting perspectives of the transcultural novel, the Black Atlantic and the dangers of diaspora, linguistic dimensions of Jewish-American literature, Caribbean poetry, Zulfikar Ghose's The Triple Mirror of the Self as an imaginative reconstruction of the self in multiple worlds, classical and modern colonial discourses in the Scottish Highlands during the 18th and early 19th centuries, teaching Hanif Kureishi, and teaching and learning with photographs of Africa.
