In this book, Lee (Law, Hong Kong Shue Yan University) surveys the multinational developments around same-sex marriage and examines the concepts of equality and dignity used in same-sex marriage jurisprudence. The author argues that equality and dignity are inadequate as grounds for contentious rights claims such as same-sex marriage, and suggests that the seemingly irreconcilable disagreements over the issue requires that people explore common ground to make room for deliberation. Lee argues that disagreeing parties must acknowledge that their disagreement is about the best interpretation of fundamental values that everyone shares, and not a confrontation between conflicting worldviews.
