Van den Bossche (Electric Energy Laboratory, Ghent University, Belgium) and Valchev (electronics, Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria) use classical methods and numerical tools to provide an overview of the basics and technological aspects of the design and testing of these systems. They present a fast approximation method useful in the early stages of design, and address design aspects such as the magnetic core and winding, eddy currents, insulation, thermal design, parasitic effects, and measurements. They offer suggestions for improving designs in specific cases, provide models of thermal behavior with various levels of complexity, and describe loss and thermal measurements techniques. Chapter problems are included. The book is intended for designers and users of magnetic components in power electronics, and can also be used as a text for students.
