There being plenty of fine introductory surveys of modern classical scholarship in general, Jenkins (classics and ancient history, U. of Dayton, Ohio) focuses on citing, describing, and evaluating bibliographical and information sources. He strives to include the best and most recent reference materials for studying Greek and Roman civilization from the Bronze Age through the sixth century AD. Among them are works on art and archaeology, history, language and literature, philosophy, the history of classical scholarship itself, and the later influence of the classics. He gives preference to English-language works, but also includes some in other major European languages. The first edition seems to have been published about 1993.
