Unlike many studies that have focused on issues of nurse attrition and dissatisfaction, the national Nurse Manager Engagement Project focused on what keeps nurse managers engaged and enthusiastic in their jobs. This book builds on key ideas of the study by including insights from the author's conversations with several hundred nurse managers in the three years following the Nurse Manager Engagement Project. The model of engagement presented focuses on signature behaviors of emotional mastery and healthy organizational culture, and reveals principles that can be incorporated into nursing education, professional development, and recruitment.
