Working from his parents' original last published in 1996, Michael Heinl has updated the orthography of Creole for this third edition. The collective Heinls cover Haiti's history from its first contact with the European world about 1492 to its fates as a colony in the tumult of the French Revolution, the rise of Louverture and the rise and fall of Saint-Domimgue, the chaos of what was in essence re-colonization and the emergence of a Black republican 1859, then the dark days of violence leading to the Duvaliers, intrigue, and what may be a constant state of being just about ready to come to boil.
