This work presents the history of water as a design and planning element in landscape architecture and describes new interpretations of water management, water sensitive planning, and design. Practitioners in landscape architecture, fisheries resource management, civil engineering, citizen activism, and watershed policy management address the subject of site-specific water sensitive design and look at issues related to the water sensitive planning of riparian buffers and watersheds. The editor provides a response to accompany each contribution, summarizing the chapter and emphasizing links to other chapters. Discussion summaries at the end of each section look at past problems and future directions.
