This update of the 1999 edition, suitable as a textbook for a first course /reference on the theory and analysis of plates and shells in aerospace, civil, and mechanical engineering, presents up-to-date material on the nonlinear finite element analysis of plates and relationships between classical and shear deformation theories. Following a review of the basics of the mechanics of materials and elasticity, Reddy (mechanical engineering, Texas A&M U., College Station) introduces the derivation of classical and shear deformation plate theories and their solutions by analytical and numerical methods. Much of the material on the latter has not previously been compiled into a textbook. A solutions manual for chapter problems is available from the publisher.
