This collection of essays in honor of Anglo-Saxon scholar Éamonn Ó Carragáin reflects his interest in interdisciplinary studies of the medieval period. Presented by Minnis (English, Yale) and Roberts (Institute of English, UK), the emphasis is on using text, art and geography to analyze artifacts. Subject range from the Venerable Bede to the Anglo-Saxon poem "The Dream of the Rood," to the iconography of the Book of Kells and a possible reason why early Irish churches were built near "holy wells." The contributors are among the most respected in the field. However, the book does lack an index and a list giving the credentials of the contributors.
