Hmong Americans (originally hailing from Southeast Asia) in Colorado consist of twelve clans ranging from a thousand members to one or two families. Based on focus group discussions, questionnaires, and other data collection among this population, including in-depth interviews with seven Hmong traditional healers (shamans, massage therapists, and herbalists), this text explores changes in Hmong health beliefs and practices after long-term residency in the United States. Cha, himself a Hmong, also provides an overview of traditional Hmong health beliefs and examines the problems Hmong have in accessing conventional American health care.
