In honor of Holocaust survivor Irene Eber (emerita, East Asian studies, Hebrew U. of Jerusalem), who made notable contributions to Chinese studies and the area of Chinese-Jewish relations, Findeisen (Chinese and intercultural communication, Comenius U., Bratislava, Slovak Republic) introduces a biographical sketch of Eber, a Chinese poet's thank-you poem to her, and essays that examine themes relevant to her work. Themes treated include the meaning of "home," Jewish communities in China, the study of Daoist texts in Nazi Germany, Lu Xun's literary writings, a comparative analysis of Confucian and Jewish values, and translation issues (e.g., in translating Confucius' Analects into Hebrew).
