This work offers a guide to emergency preparedness, emergency response, and disaster recovery in medium-sized to large academic libraries experiencing moderate to large-scale disasters. Topics covered include preparedness planning, writing the disaster plan, training for disaster preparedness and response, and how to respond when disaster is imminent and when disaster strikes. There is also material on post-disaster issues, such as working with recovery teams and vendors in collection recovery, and working with architects and contractors to rebuild facilities. Advice on communication, leadership, and documentation is provided. Case studies are presented of seven university libraries recovering from fire, earthquake, hurricane, and flooding, illustrated with b&w photos of real recovery efforts. The book includes an annotated list of industry journals, companies, societies, and organizations, plus a model RFP for selecting a disaster recovery service.
