This book provides an introduction to media relations in Canada, from both a practical and a philosophical perspective. After a practical grounding in the philosophical debate on the nature of media, chapters in the second section consider media drivers, the news release, the interview, and special cases such as crisis communications and the Internet. In addition to providing a text for the practice of media relations, the book also complements more theoretical texts on the media in general and its role in society. While primarily intended for students in communications, the book will also benefit students of journalism, as well as practitioners of media relations in the private, public, and voluntary sectors. This second edition contains two new chapters outlining emerging trends in media relations since the first edition was published in 2002. The author has taught media relations courses at Concordia University College of Alberta. The book is distributed in the US by Michigan State University Press.
