This edited volume provides an overview of recent work in human geography utilizing non-representational theories, which build on social constructivism's insights concerning the importance of representation, the mutability of the social order, and the connections between signification and extra-linguistic forces, but places far greater emphasis on relational phenomena. The editors (both of Durham U., UK) present 16 papers in four thematic sections that address in turn how to understand issues of indeterminacy and complexity, the intermingling of lively bodies, and the relationship between life and the formation of subjectivities; the role of representation in non-representation theory; the implications of non-representational theory's materialist analysis of the social and attention to events and relational phenomena for ethics; and implications for conceptualizing the political.
