Many years after he envisioned it, archeologist Rees (anthropology, U. of Louisiana) has brought together a one-volume, multi-authored, up-to-date overview of Louisiana archaeology (it's a project he initially imagined in 2001, and then found impetus for at a meeting of the Louisiana Archaeological Society in 2007). He supplies an introductory essay surveying what is known and not known about the history of human habitation in the area, suggesting the rich potential for further study, and explaining his deliberate aim to be inclusive of regions and peoples in this volume. Following are contributed chapters intentionally solicited to provide a chronological account from paleoindian and early archaic findings to immigration and urbanization in New Orleans.
