In this new and crisp translation of the most important surviving accounts of classical mythography, Smith and Trzaskoma (both: classics, U. of New Hampshire) strive for both accuracy and readability and achieve it. The result is much better accessibility for undergraduate and beginning graduate students, and even seasoned professionals will find the change refreshing (or infuriating, depending on loyalties to previous translations). The authors include a nicely contextual introduction and learning aids such as genealogical charts, maps and annotations. Given their focus on those first encountering Apollodorus and Hyginus, the fact that these two texts are printed here together makes this an attractive offering for classroom use.
