Zuckerman (psychology, U. of Delaware) examines three contemporary scientific approaches to the study of personality--the psychodynamic, the trait-psychobiological, and the cognitive--and corresponding theoretical frameworks that guide research on personality disorders: attachment and separation, the psychobiological paradigm, and cognitive frameworks. He explores the utility of the three approaches in the study of the causes of depression and compares the effectiveness of therapies using the three approaches separately or in combination. Intended primarily for personality teachers, scholars, and scientists, the text is also suitable for use in advanced graduate courses in personality.
