This pocket-sized (5x7") guide to Chen Kaige's award-winning 1992 queer film, Farewell My Concubine, includes b&w film stills and an excerpt from a lecture given by the star of the film, Leslie Cheung, one year before his death in 2003. The author places the film in the historical and cultural context of China's political turmoil in the mid-20th century, while drawing from recent works on transgender and queer studies to provide readers with a new look at the film. The book also includes a brief synopsis of the film and information on awards, cast, and crew. Leung teaches gender, sexuality, and women's studies at Simon Fraser University, Canada.
