Nevills (UC-Riverside) has held various positions and leadership roles in K-12 and higher education, and has authored/coauthored numerous books and articles. Her main areas of specialization include neurology, mind imaging, and research for education and neurology and here she presents a sequel to Building the Reading Brain, PreK-3 (Nevills & Wolfe, 2009), this time providing administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals with insights into older learners and readers, with discussion of how their reading proficiency develops, how their brains differ from those of younger learners, and how their unique needs can best be met. The explanation of current neurology research and theory is interwoven with practical tips on how educators can incorporate that knowledge into their teaching, including special "What you can tell your students about. . . " sections describing the information teachers might relay to their students about their own developing brains, to encourage them to become responsive and responsible learners.
