This volume and its companion volume, Violence Against Women and Children: Mapping the Terrain, are part of an initiative by the American Psychological Association designed to serve as a resource to support research, agencies and advocacy groups in reducing violence against women and children. White (psychology, U. of North Carolina at Greensboro) and her co- editors introduce 13 chapters by interdisciplinary scholars that provide empirically-based prevention and treatment strategies for the major US public health problem of gender-based child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual violence. They apply a socioecological model in addressing complex variables and needed changes at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels toward prevention.
