This collection, a sequel to Authentic Alaska (1998) features 32 essays by rural Alaskans enrolled in distance courses through the University of Alaska system. The essays, grouped by theme (e.g. recreation, culture, growing up in rural Alaska, survival, and harvesting the land and sea) provide a welcome insider's view of the largest, most rugged US state. Biographical sketches and author photographs in b&w accompany the entries. Andrews and Creed are professors of journalism at the Kotzebue branch of the University of Alaska, Chukchi College.
